Founded in January of 2014, CommonWealth Coffeehouse offers traditional and artisanal French pastries and savory food in the heart of San Antonio’s growing culinary scene. The charming house on Davis court, nestled right in the historic neighborhood of Mahncke Park across from the University of Incarnate Word, genuinely demonstrates what it means to be a community coffeehouse.

Jorge and Jose, the duo that own and operate CommonWealth, decided early on that the fare at their coffeehouse should be authentically French with a San Antonio spin. A Skype date and some heavy persuasion later, they landed on their match made in cafe heaven, Vincent Lacoste. Vincent is a third generation baker from Dax, France and was only supposed to stay for two weeks, until he felt right at home in San Antonio and never left.  He shows up at 4am to bring you pastries and bread from scratch every day. Our hope is that when you bite into that Tarte Tatin or buttery croissant that houses your chicken tarragon sandwich, you will be transported to a cafe in southern France only to be awoken by the chatter around you (or the breakfast tacos) reminding you that your home is only just a drive or a walk away.

In addition to providing you an authentic French culinary experience, CommonWealth also takes great effort to incorporate local ingredients into their daily fare. From fresh vegetables provided by local farms and the various herbs from their own backyard to the cuvee coffee roasted in Austin, CommonWealth is dedicated to bringing you the highest quality dishes and drinks for breakfast, lunch and Saturday brunch.

Come and stay as long as you’d like. Even when it is a full house, you’ll be able to find a space just right for you. From the community table in the back for a business meeting, out in the garden lunching with friends, You are always welcome here at CommonWealth.
